Hydrogen Sulfide, or sulfuric acid gas (H2S), is a highly toxic and odorless gas. it has been identified by NIOSH as the leading cause of sudden death in the workplace. At concentrations up to 30 ppm, its smell is like rotten eggs. However, at more lethal concentrations (100 ppm), hydrogen sulfide quickly paralyzes the sense of smell. One may momentarily smell the gas but not pay much attention to it when its smell is no longer detected. If exposure is sufficient and intense, unconsciousness and respiratory failure can occur without warning signs.

Personnel and company management must be aware of the properties and characteristics of H2S.
